BISL – NYC Housing Competition

Sponsored by New York City’s Department of Housing and Development and AIA New York, the competition sought to arrive with solutions to the city’s vast number of undeveloped and underutilized small lots in all Boroughs.

The competition teams’ strategy was to design for a building containing an efficient building core and structural system that could be employed successfully on any of the over 90 different and varying empty sites. A panelized façade was employed and designed to conceal the living spaces for privacy and clear up the circulation so as to bring as much natural light into the narrow space as feasible.

Amenity spaces exist in the form of a landscaped rear yard and a roof terrace for use by the tenants.
